Stuffed Onion Burgers

In this dish, I’ve combined my love of onions with my love of thick, juicy, homemade burgers. This recipe makes six 1/3-pound burgers on your Foodi™ Grill. Here, I use red onions for their color and to give the burgers a slightly sweeter taste. When red onions are cooked, they lose the spicy and pungent flavor that you get when eaten raw, and they will bring your burger to a whole new sweeter level.

DID YOU KNOW? Making an indentation in the middle of your patty will prevent the burger from puffing up and breaking out of the onion wrap.

VARIATION TIP: For even more flavor, during the last 5 minutes of cooking, brush some sweet barbecue sauce over the onion rings and on top of the burgers.

Step-by-step instruction without your screen going to sleep

  • 2 large red onions
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons gluten-free Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 pounds ground beef

Utensils

  • Grill Grate
  • Step 1

Cut both ends off the onions. Slice each onion crosswise into thirds and peel off the papery outer skin. Separate the outer two rings (keeping the pair together) from each third for a stable and firm onion ring wrapper.

  • Step 2

Insert the Grill Grate and close the hood. Select GRILL, set the temperature to HI, and set the time to 15 minutes. Select START/STOP to begin preheating.

  • Step 3

In a large bowl, combine the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Add the ground beef in chunks and loosely mix. Form the mixture into 6 equal-size patties. Stuff the burger patties into the onion rings and make a small indentation in the middle of each patty with your thumb.

  • Step 4

When the unit beeps to signify it has preheated, place the patties on the Grill Grate. Close the hood and grill for 7 minutes, 30 seconds.

  • Step 5

After 7 minutes, 30 seconds, open the hood and flip the burgers. Close the hood and cook for 7 minutes, 30 seconds
more for medium-well burgers. If you prefer your burgers more well-done, continue cooking to your liking.

  • Step 6

When cooking is complete, remove the burgers from the grill and serve.
