When serving homemade ice cream, you’ll need to thaw it out for several minutes before scooping; this helps maintain its creamy texture.

How Long Does Homemade Ice Cream Last?

Although store-bought ice cream can last a couple of months, homemade ice cream lasts in the freezer for up to two weeks.

Keep in mind that the quality of the ice cream can deteriorate over time, even in the freezer. Factors such as exposure to air, freezer temperature and the ingredients used can all affect the shelf life of homemade ice cream. To extend the shelf life and maintain quality, be sure to store it in the Ninja Creami Deluxe Pint container and keep it at a consistent temperature below 0°F.

FAQ:

Q: When was vanilla cake ice cream invented?

A: The history of mixing cake into ice cream goes back centuries — some sources suggest that humans were enjoying chilled desserts made with fruit and wine as far back as 500 B.C. in ancient Rome.

However, it wasn’t until the late 19th century that ice cream cake flavors became widely available in culinary circles. By 1890, cookbooks featuring recipes for deliciously rich cakes made with frozen ingredients began to appear in print. Throughout the years, recipes have been refined and revamped to include the unique vanilla cake ice cream flavor!

Q: Who invented vanilla cake ice cream?

A: While it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly who developed modern-day versions of this vanilla cake ice cream twist, one name that frequently pops up is German confectioner Emil Frey. In 1896, Frey created a recipe for an indulgent dessert called vanillekuchen (vanilla cake).

His recipe combined layers of creamy vanilla custard and crunchy sponge cake soaked with sweet syrup and covered with whipped cream — many believe this is the origin of today’s vanilla ice cream cakes.

Q: Is it hard to make homemade vanilla cake ice cream?

A: Making a homemade vanilla cake ice cream can be surprisingly easy. Most recipes call for just four ingredients, plus whatever decorative touches you choose. Preparing each part separately is fairly straightforward, but assembling all those parts into a beautiful multilayered masterpiece can require some practice and patience.

Q: How long does it take to make vanilla ice cream?

A: Making homemade vanilla ice cream normally takes about 25 to 40 minutes of active preparation time, plus a few hours of chilling and freezing time.

Q: How many different types of ice cream flavors are there?

A: When it comes to ice cream, there are seemingly endless flavor possibilities. From classic flavors like chocolate, strawberry and mint chip to more unique combinations like cookie monster or cotton candy dreamsicle, there truly is something for everyone. More unique flavor options include red velvet with mascarpone cheese frosting or key lime pie with a graham cracker crust. You can even create your own unique flavor from scratch with your Ninja CREAMi.
