SAUCE INGREDIENTS
- 2 tablespoons tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, peeled, chopped
- 1 can (15-ounces) (15-ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tablespoon Calabrian chili paste
BURGER INGREDIENTS
- 2 pounds ground chicken
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ cup chopped fresh parsley
- Kosher salt, as desired
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- Fresh basil leaves, to serve
- 8 split hamburger buns
-
Step 1
1. To make the burger sauce, add oil and garlic to a medium saucepan and place over medium heat. Cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the tomatoes and chilies and bring to a simmer. Cook until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Set aside.
-
Step 2
2. Install griddle plate in unit. Follow ignition instructions on unit, then select ROAST/BAKE function and use the TEMPERATURE CONTROL dial to set the temperature to 450°F. Close the lid to begin preheating. (The unit will flash the current temperature and set temperature until preheated.) Unit is preheated when set temperature displays.
-
Step 3
3. When unit is preheated, keep lid closed and allow griddle to preheat for an additional 10 minutes.
-
Step 4
4. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, add the chicken, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, cayenne, Parmesan, parsley, and salt. Mix to combine, then divide mixture equally into 8 loosely formed balls. Set aside.
-
Step 5
5. When griddle is preheated, lift the lid and evenly add canola oil to the griddle plate. Add burger balls to the griddle one at a time, then firmly smashing down using the back of a spatula to form a thin patty. Cook for 4-6 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking. Place a cheese slice on each burger and close the lid to melt cheese (approx. 1 minute).
-
Step 6
6. Arrange the buns cut-side down on the griddle. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until lightly toasted.
-
Step 7
7. Build burgers by placing a patty over each bottom bun. Top each burger with equal amounts of sauce, then garnish with basil leaves. Place top bun on each burger and serve immediately.
