Pretzels and cheese sauce are a true match made in heaven. With the help of SteamCrisp™ technology, the pretzel achieves the most glorious golden brown and crispy exterior with a light and fluffy interior. Paired with the beer cheese, it will send your taste buds to space. This giant pretzel may be meant to be shared, but trust me when I say you could eat the whole thing yourself . . . it’s just that good!

Substitution Tip: If you can’t find self-rising flour, you can substitute all-purpose flour mixed with 11/2 teaspoons of baking powder.

  • 1 (12-ounce) can lager beer
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons self-rising flour
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • All-purpose flour, for dusting
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Coarse salt
  • 1 (16-ounce) block processed cheese product
  • 2 cups grated pepper Jack cheese
  • 1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Utensils

  • Aluminum Foil
  • Step 1

Pour the beer into the pot. Place the bottom layer of the Deluxe Reversible Rack in the higher position, then cover it with aluminum foil. Spray the foil with cooking spray. Place the rack in the pot.

  • Step 2

To prepare the dough, combine the self-rising flour and yogurt in a large bowl and work until a smooth ball of dough forms.

  • Step 3

Dust a clean, flat work surface with all-purpose flour. Place the dough on the surface and use your hands to form it into a 24-inch-long rope. Twist the rope into a pretzel shape.

  • Step 4

In a shallow dish, whisk together the water and baking soda until dissolved. Dip both sides of the pretzel in the mixture, then place it on top of the foil in the pot. Sprinkle the pretzel with the garlic powder, onion powder, and some salt.

  • Step 5

Close the lid and move the slider to STEAMCRISP. Select STEAM & CRISP, set the temperature to 340°F, and set the time to 10 minutes. Press START/STOP to begin cooking (PrE will display for about 20 minutes as the unit steams, then the timer will start counting down).

  • Step 6

When cooking is complete, carefully remove the rack with the pretzel and set aside to cool. Leave the remaining beer in the pot.

  • Step 7

To make the cheese sauce, move the slider to AIR FRY/STOVETOP. Select SEAR/SAUTÉ and set the temperature to HI-5. Press START/STOP to begin cooking.

  • Step 8

Add the processed cheese, pepper Jack, and cheddar to the pot with the beer. Season with salt and pepper and stir constantly until combined and melted, about5 minutes.

  • Step 9

Immediately pour the hot beer cheese into a bowl and serve with the pretzel.
