Steamed Sweet Potato Rolls

ORANGE DOUGH

  • 1 cup water, for steaming
  • 1 medium sweet potato
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water, lukewarm
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast

WHITE DOUGH

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast

Utensils

  • Deluxe Reversible Rack (bottom layer only)
  • Ninja® Multi-Purpose Pan or 8-inch round baking pan
  • Small Bowl
  • Two Large Bowls
  • Step 1

    Pour 1 cup of water in the pot. Place the bottom layer of the Deluxe Reversible Rack in the lower position, then place in the pot. Place the sweet potato on the rack.

  • Step 2

    Close the lid and move slider to STEAMCRISP. Select STEAM & BAKE, set temperature to 375°F, and set time for 15 minutes. Press START/STOP to begin cooking (PrE will display for approx. 20 minutes as the unit steams, then the timer will start counting down).

  • Step 3

    When cooking is complete, remove the rack with the sweet potato. Remove the flesh, add to a large bowl, and mash with cinnamon. Add 1 1/2 cups flour and stir to combine.

  • Step 4

    Add lukewarm water and 1 tablespoon sugar to a small bowl and whisk until dissolved. Add 1 teaspoon yeast and continue to mix until combined, then add to the sweet potato mixture and knead until dough becomes soft and smooth. If the dough is sticky, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time. Form into a ball in the bowl and set aside.

  • Step 5

    In a large bowl, add 1 1/2 cups flour. In a small bowl, add lukewarm warm water and 1 tablespoon sugar to a small bowl and whisk until dissolved. Add 1 teaspoon yeast and continue to mix until combined, then add to the large bowl of flour and knead until dough becomes soft and smooth. If the dough is sticky, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time. Form into a ball in the bowl and set aside.

  • Step 6

    Let both balls of dough rest for about an hour. They should double in size.

  • Step 7

    Pour 3 cups of water in the pot. Spray the bottom of the Ninja Multi-Purpose Pan (or 8-inch round baking pan) with nonstick cooking spray.

  • Step 8

    When the dough balls have doubled in size, roll them into large, thin circles, like a pizza. Place the orange dough on top of the white dough, roll into a log, then cut into 1-inch slices.

    Place the rolls in the pan. Place the bottom layer of the Deluxe Reversible Rack in the lower position, place the pan on the rack, then place the rack in the pot.

  • Step 10

    Close the lid and move slider to STEAMCRISP. Select STEAM & BAKE, set temperature to 325°F, and set the time for 15 minutes.

  • Step 11

    When cooking is complete, remove the rack with the pan and let cool for at least 5 minutes. Serve warm.
